Usually, a chin augmentation can dramatically improve your appearance and produce a more harmonious facial balance. Candidates for this procedure are in good health and have chins that do not project enough to balance their profiles. Improvements from chin augmentation include:

About Chin Augmentation Surgery

Chin augmentation is usually performed as an outpatient procedure in our AAAASF-approved operating rooms using local anesthetic; in some cases, a general anesthetic is used. The surgery lasts about 1 hour in most cases. Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero prefer silicone facial implants but will use other implant materials if necessary. The silicone used for chin augmentation has a very solid consistency and has a proven safety record over many years in use.

After you have been properly anesthetized, your surgeon will create a pocket for the implant and use sizers to determine the proper amount of projection and height for your enhanced chin. The incision is usually placed under the chin, where any scarring should be very unnoticeable once fully healed. Chin implants conform to the bone and appear very natural.

What to Expect During Recovery

Recovery after chin augmentation varies between patients. Some discomfort after the surgery is to be expected, but prescription medication can help you rest comfortably after surgery. A short-term antibiotic is also prescribed. It is recommended to avoid chewing hard foods for about a week.

After 1 Week

Sutures are removed in one week.

Return to Work

Most patients are ready to return to work and social activities once swelling around the chin subsides, which is typically within 4 to 5 days.

Other Things to Know

Chin augmentation requires patience and emotional stability in dealing with the healing period. Because swelling may be present for several months, the defined, chiseled look that patients desire may not become evident for 3 to 4 months.
