Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia is a condition that causes the formation of breasts in males and may affect 65% of the male population.1 Excess breast tissue may be composed of fat, glandular tissue, or a combination of both, and can occur in one or both breasts. About Male Breast Reduction Surgery
Male breast reduction surgery lasts from 1 to 2 hours and is usually performed as an outpatient procedure while the patient is under twilight anesthesia. The plastic surgeon removes fat, glandular tissue, and/or excess skin from the breast to produce a flatter, more masculine appearance. Treatment may include liposuction, surgical removal of excess tissue or skin, or a combination of both.

While healing rates vary from person to person, you can expect recovery to follow this general timeline:
First 1 or 2 Days
You will need a friend or family member to drive you home after surgery and stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medication to control discomfort if needed.
2 to 4 Weeks
For at least 2 to 4 weeks, you will be required to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and limit any strenuous activity.
Recheck Appointment
You will have a follow-up appointment within about a week of surgery.

You may have swelling of the chest and nipples for the first 4 to 6 weeks, and possibly as long as 6 months. Fading and flattening of the scars take 3 months to a year.
Risks
