Breast Lift

Many women find themselves wanting firmer, perkier breasts. Plastic surgeons Dr. M. Bradley Calobrace and Dr. Juan Quintero understand that a renewed breast shape can improve a woman’s confidence and enhance her sense of femininity. They perform breast lift surgery in Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky, to help their patients from Floyds Knobs, IN, and other nearby areas have breasts that look youthful and attractive.

Improvements From a Breast Lift

Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero perform breast lift surgery, technically called mastopexy, to renew the shape of the breasts. Improvements include:

  • Reshaping breasts that are saggy and flattened
  • Aligning breasts that are uneven
  • Restoring a firm, perky look
  • Reducing large, stretched areolas (the darker skin around the nipple)
  • Renewing breast appearance after breast implant removal

Because a breast lift will not increase your breast size, Dr. Calobrace or Dr. Quintero may recommend combining it with breast augmentation if your goal is to fill out your breasts. If you want to restore fullness without implants, you might consider an auto-augmentation breast lift that uses your own breast tissues to fill out the upper breasts.

How We Personalize Your Procedure

Your surgeon will use the surgical technique that is best suited for you, accounting for the amount of breast tissue and excess skin you have, areola size and nipple position, and your personal preferences. Options include:

  • Minimal scar breast lift (doughnut mastopexy) involves circular incisions around the areola and provides a modest lift.
  • Partial lift (keyhole or vertical or lollipop mastopexy) involves two incisions: a circular incision around the areola, and a second incision that extends vertically from the areola to the base of the breast. No incision is made under the breast.
  • Full lift (anchor or Wise mastopexy) involves incisions that circle the areola, travel down vertically from the areola to the base of the breast, and along the fold of the breast. This lift creates the most significant degree of change.

During your consultation, your surgeon may show you possible results using the VECTRA® 3-D imaging system.

About Breast Lift Surgery

A breast lift is normally performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. It takes approximately 1.5 to 3 hours to complete. After making the incisions, your surgeon will reposition your nipple and areola, remove excess skin, and renew your breast shape. If breast augmentation is also being performed, your plastic surgeon will create a pocket for a breast implant either directly behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle, and then position the implant within this pocket.

What to Expect During Recovery

Before surgery, your surgeon will give you specific recovery instructions for breast lift patients. These instructions will be very detailed, including everything from the type of bra to be worn to when to return to work and how soon normal activities can be resumed. While patient experiences vary, you can expect recovery to follow this general timeline:

First 1 to 2 Days

You will need a friend or family member to drive you home after surgery, to stay with you for the first 24 hours, and possibly a day or so longer. Sleeping in a recliner or propped up with pillows will help minimize swelling. You can expect to be up and about the day after surgery. Some temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness of the breasts can be expected. You can use medication prescribed by your plastic surgeon to control the discomfort if needed.

Recheck Appointment

You will have a follow-up appointment approximately 3 to 6 days after surgery.

Return to Work

Most patients are ready to return to their everyday activities within 1 to 2 weeks, with strenuous activity limited for one month or more.

Other Things to Know

You will need to avoid lifting anything over your head for 3 to 4 weeks. Scars will fade gradually from pink to white within several months to a year.

Often Asked

How much does a breast lift cost?

The cost for breast lift procedures depends on the complexity of the procedure, whether it’s combined with other procedures, and other factors. Breast lift on its own typically ranges from $9,000 to $11,000; breast lift with implants ranges from $10,000 to $14,000. Patients can take advantage of financing options to set up affordable monthly payments.

How long will my “new look” last?

A breast lift improves the appearance of your breasts for years. The natural aging process, pregnancy, and weight changes will likely cause your breasts to sag again. Results may be prolonged by the placement of implants during the procedures.

Is there a breast lift without surgery?

Generally, surgery is the only way to lift and reshape the breasts. Neither exercise nor breast-firming creams have ever been known to create similar results.

Will a breast lift affect my ability to breastfeed?

Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero have found that mastopexy usually does not interfere with breastfeeding when patients inform him in advance of their future plans. However, it’s likely that your breasts will stretch during pregnancy and breastfeeding, which may alter your breast lift results.
