Goals of Post-Weight Loss Plastic Surgery

You’ve come a long way since your weight loss surgery; now let us help you take those final steps to success. The goal of plastic surgery is to place the “finishing touch” on weight loss surgery results, correcting two main concerns:

  • Excess skin. Excess skin is a concern for post-bariatric patients because once stretched by weight gain, skin cannot easily contract to accommodate your slimmer contours. This excess skin hangs in unsightly flaps and folds, hiding the slim new body shape.
  • Residual fat deposits. Diet, exercise, and even bariatric surgery are sometimes not enough to correct “trouble spots” – isolated areas of stubborn fat.

Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero are experienced in tailoring many procedures to the unique needs of weight loss patients.

Areas of Improvement

Each patient who visits us in Lexington or Louisville for post-weight loss plastic surgery has different concerns and different goals. Dr. Calobrace and Dr. Quintero offer procedures that improve the breasts/chest, face, and body.

Procedures for the Breasts/Chest

Popular procedure options include:

  • Breast augmentation: Although many women may want to reduce the size of everything except their breasts, weight loss often affects the breasts along with the rest of the body. Breast augmentation can provide a full, feminine breast shape.
  • Breast lift: Massive weight loss can cause the breasts to droop or sag. A breast lift addresses these concerns and restores a perky shape and position. It is often combined with breast augmentation or breast reduction.
  • Breast reduction: In some cases, breast volume is not reduced after massive weight loss. These women are left with overly large, sagging breasts that are not proportionate with their slimmer look. A breast reduction removes excess skin and tissue for smaller, lighter breasts and increased comfort.
  • Male breast reduction: Concerns about breast appearance after weight loss are not confined to women. Men, too, are faced with excess chest skin and tissue. A male breast reduction helps the chest look flatter and more masculine.

Procedures for the Face

We offer surgical and non-surgical procedures for the face to help our post-weight loss surgery patients look rejuvenated. Options include:

  • Facelift: Significant weight loss can leave the face looking aged and haggard. Facelift surgery tightens and lifts the mid and lower face. It also improves the appearance of the neck and jowls.
  • Brow lift: This procedure corrects forehead wrinkles, drooping eyebrows, hooded upper eyelids, and frown lines.
  • Eyelid surgery: This procedure removes excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. It corrects puffiness and drooping, as well as under-eye bags.
  • Non-surgical rejuvenation: Injectable fillers can restore volume and reduce deep creases. BOTOX® Cosmetic can reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines or crow’s feet. We also offer laser treatments to reduce signs of aging without surgery.

Procedures for the Body

At CaloAesthetics® Plastic Surgery, weight loss patients pursue body contouring procedures to enhance the results of their impressive accomplishments. Patients often require a combination of the following:

  • Tummy tuck: Addressing the upper and/or lower abdomen, a tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat, and also mends weakened or separated abdominal muscles.
  • Liposuction: Our plastic surgeons use this versatile tool for removing fat deposits and sculpting a variety of body areas.
  • Medial thigh lift: Excess skin and fat deposits on the thighs are very common for post-weight loss patients. This can be frustrating as it can make wearing shorts, skirts, or a bathing suit embarrassing. A medial thigh lift slims and firms inner thighs.
  • Panniculectomy: Unlike a tummy tuck, a panniculectomy addresses only the lower abdomen. The procedure removes the roll of excess skin and fat below the bellybutton called the pannus.
  • Arm lift: While almost everyone sees some droopiness in their upper arms as they age, it can be much more dramatic and problematic for people after massive weight loss. Often referred to as “bat wings,” these flaps of excess skin are not easily covered by clothing and thus may be particularly bothersome to patients.
  • Body lift: A body lift provides comprehensive improvement to the entire lower body, from the lower thighs to the bottom of the ribs. It combines several other procedures, including a thigh lift and a tummy tuck.
  • Back lipectomy: This procedure removes excess skin from the upper or lower back and flanks, usually on both sides.

At your consultation, your plastic surgeon creates a personalized surgical plan that addresses your unique needs and aesthetic goals. Most patients require a series of surgeries that are spread out over time to optimize proper healing and safety.

Cost for Post Weight Loss Surgery

The cost of post-weight loss surgery depends on which procedures are performed and the extent of correction needed. Arm lift surgery costs start at $8,500 and body lift surgery costs start at $15,000. Because these procedures are so complex, choosing the right surgeon is critical for the safety and quality of results. Make sure to choose a plastic surgeon who is trained and experienced in combining and staging body contouring procedures.
